In Brussels, the MIVB/STIB maintenance centre has adopted Compact folding doors to separate multiple compartments within their 3,200 m² workshop, where buses, trams, and metro vehicles are serviced. In total, 15 units of our Compact doors were installed. These doors are now helping to standardize and improve the handling of painting and finishing in transportation workshops.
More broadly, across Belgium, Germany, Italy, and France, Compact doors are increasingly being specified in public transport maintenance centres — not only for general workshop use, but also to compartmentalize spray booths and close off paint lines.
Why this solution works
Space & interference constraints
Because our Compact folding doors require only a steel support frame (no ceiling rails), they can be placed virtually anywhere — even in the middle of a hall. In the MIVB/STIB project, that meant we could install doors as partitions without the risk of dirt falling on freshly painted surfaces.
No ceiling rails, no obstruction
The doors fold upward and retract above the opening, eliminating the need for roof-mounted tracks. That’s ideal in these environments — it ensures there are no door parts hovering above freshly painted components and no interference with lighting or ventilation.
A popular choice for spray booths
Many spray booth and finishing-equipment manufacturers now offer our Compact doors as a standard option. The flexibility in positioning, plus possibilities for integrating pedestrian doors or vision panels, make them a strong candidate for demanding paint environments.
